Kevin DelMastro
Saxophone
Tenor saxophonist Kevin DelMastro began playing at age 9 but didn’t become a showman til the world’s top dance bands caught his attention. He incorporates the visual aspect to his musical entertainment through his work with the Full Strength Funk Band, Black Pearl Reggae, The Amalgamated Ska, Buena Vista SoCal Club, and Manny Cepeda’s Latin ensemble, to name a few. As leader of original bands, he helped compose many crowd-pleasing songs. Rooted in urban blues, he brings a unique pop sax style with universal appeal. Equally comfortable as a sideman, solo performer, or building an epic solo fronting the band with his big sound, Kevin loves pushing the limits of audience engagement, creating memorable performances. He draws inspiration from John Coltrane, David Sanborn, Eric Marienthal, and Gerald Albright. A former pro dancer and instructor, Kevin speaks 4 languages and cooks a mean marinara sauce. Hailing from Connecticut, he now feels like a native San Diegan except he still can’t surf. He recently performed with Tito Puente’s legendary bandmates as part of Jazz 88.3’s Latin special.
